TIME

To have a holistic approach over the whole era was challenging. We had to compare 5 movies which were completely different from each other, Sholay and Mrigyaa stood out as they didn’t approach the same topic as other movies and had slightly different narratives showing larger than life issues and a far fetched tribal lifestyle respectively.

We found some common ground talking about women and their gender roles in these movies. Issues of social hierarchy stood out too and not just because of the caste system sometimes it was the stigma surrounding the jobs and how the people around the character behaved and has preconceived notions about them.

Griha Pravesh previously surprised us with an issue of finding a home in Mumbai which is still prevalent. The movie highlighted the struggle of settling down, and when we discussed further we came to the conclusion that across all the movies, all characters struggled, be it to find a place to call home, a struggle to make a life changing choice or to take revenge and calm one’s soul.

We decided that the era was about struggle to come to a point of fulfillment.

We decided to make a comic strip to illustrate these iconic characters and introduce them to each other so that they can have a conversation.
