The movies were given to us as set, instead of diving into them as individual parts, we started comparing elements like gender roles and characters across movies to define that era.

The movies of these era talked about everyday man (expect for Sholay and Mrigya) and wanted the audience to relate to the characters in the story. These films with simple narratives had a lot of underlying ones and if we dive deeper have a lot of levels to the issues in the society they talk about.
A bigger picture of the era can be portrayed when show multiple levels of the films, comparing them both horizontally and vertically across so that we have a better ideas which can be then converted to appropriate responses.
