We were taught how to depict a dress along with a model in an efficient way. The faculty traced out the the gesture of a model from a magazine and used the same frame to illustrate what the model was wearing.
Some minimal lines are enough to depict the flow of the body as well as the cloth draped over it. While illustrating the figure it is important to keep in mind that there is a certain flow to the frame beneath the cloth, the frame being the body, and the clothes depending on the fabric reacts accordingly.
While drawing the figure we have the liberty to exaggerate features and make the the model slimmer(taller forms are more aesthetic). The proportions of the body should be kept in mind while slimming down the figure.
