The city exploration topic continued from the seminar class to studio and we went back to discussion about our visit to Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum. We were told to take pictures of 3 exhibits we liked.
We went on to discuss what we learned about Mumbai in the Museum and then saw a few clips from the movie “Dhobi Ghat”.
The faculty said that every person has a different perspective when it comes to seeing a city (highlighted in the movie).
For the class activity we were to go back to the city we chose and make an illustration about things we have a memory of. The illustration shouldn’t contain anything iconic to the city. After we were done filling one half the page with illustration, which we struggled with, we were to make a symbol and represent the same element thorough some minimal icons.
The struggle was to move away from drawing simple shapes which depict the city easily. After the illustration, the symbol turned to be a different story and we still are to explore that as our homework.
