29 August 2019/Class 5/Ms.Kanika Sharma
We went over the second chapter in the Metamorphosis, analysing the narrative deeper this time and going through the character’s reaction and behavior towards Gregor to gauge their personailities even more.
We observed a change in the the family’s lifestyle so that they can adjust or adapt to their new condition. Gregor goes through an internal conflict, not being able to decide if he is straying further away from his human self by accepting his natural insect instinct or feeling materialistic towards his furniture which he didn’t actaully require in his current state. His mother points out the same thing, questioning that if they take away his furniture they are indictaing that they have given up hope of his state to be reverted to normal.
We discussed about the theme of the book and what the word ‘theme’ itself actually means in context of literature. We had a conversation between the words as alienation and isolation as the secondary and underlying themes of the book the main theme being transformation as suggested by the title itself. After discussion we seem to have come to a conclusion that alienation is when a person isolates himself and isolation is when a person is kept apart from against his will. These words more or less appeared the same in the beginning but gradually we were able to decipher as to what the actual difference is.
Who Am I?
We were assigned to write 10 attributes describing ourselves (which weren’t ‘labels’ given to us) and then write metaphors related to these.

A few examples of my metaphors are (later to be updated according to faculty feedback)
- A breeze and a bush. (Playful)
- Sunglasses in the dark. (Day Dream)
- Bare in the crowd. (Anxious)
- Square without sides(Expressive)
- Mask on a mask(Hide)
